| Aspire was founded in 1960
by a small group of concerned parents who identified a need
for specialized services for people with mental retardation
and developmental disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy,
and epilepsy. Today, early intervention services are provided
for children birth to eight years of age; beginning at age 18,
a complete array of day, employment and residential services
for adults are available. Families are at the heart of Aspire's
mission. Their decisions and support are the guiding elements
in Aspire's services.
Central to all Aspire programs are the principles of community inclusion, personal dignity, and a person-centered approach. Aspire's services incorporate certain core values: people with developmental disabilities are people first. A disability should receive attention only when it is relevant and always in a respectful manner. Each person is unique. The opportunity to make personal decisions is essential. Aspire's responsibility is to work in partnership with individuals and their families to provide the supports needed for people to achieve their goals.
The mission of Aspire is to provide people with developmental disabilities quality lifetime supports and opportunities to achieve their individual highest human potential where they live, learn, work or play.
Aspire is an equal opportunity agency that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, ancestry, national origin, age, religion, physical handicap, mental condition, disability, marital status, veteran status, or political affiliation or belief.
Aspire currently provides services and supports to nearly 800 individuals and their families.
