Recent State of Illinois Budget Update Letters to Aspire Friends and Families
7/17/09 Letter to Friends
On July 15th, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a new budget for the State. Thanks to numerous calls from families and supporters of people with disabilities, the budget spreads the sacrifice of spending cuts across state agencies. Nonetheless, human services funding in Illinois will only be about 86% of last year’s funding level.
7/9/09 Letter to Friends
On July 14th, the Illinois legislature will reconvene. We’d like to urge our supporters to immediately call their State Senators and Representatives with the following message:
- Urge legislators to let the vetoes of SB 1197 and HB 2145 stand.
- Pass a sensible and FAIR budget...

You’ve probably heard talk in the papers or on TV about the State’s “Doomsday Budget.” This Budget claims that unless a large tax increase is passed, social service agencies will be cut dramatically. Worse, social services are the target of the budget cutting – most other areas of the budget will not sustain cuts.
